AdSense revenue analysis with an AI agent: find the drop, find the dead weight

TL;DR

AdSense reporting is complete but passive: everything you need is in there, segmented across menus you have to remember to open. This is the sequence of questions worth asking instead, all read-only, ending with the recurring version that runs without you.

Diagnose a drop by narrowing, not by staring

  1. 1"Earnings are down this month — break it down by day and tell me when it started." A drop with a clean start date is usually a change; a gradual slide is usually traffic mix.
  2. 2"Now split that period by site." Almost always one or two properties account for most of the movement.
  3. 3"For those sites, split by ad unit and by country." This separates a layout problem (specific units) from a demand problem (specific geographies).
  4. 4"Was RPM or page views the bigger contributor?" Fewer visitors and cheaper visitors are different problems with different fixes.
Each step narrows the search space. The point isn't that AdSense hides this — it's that four segmentations by hand is a job people skip when busy.

Find the dead weight

The opposite question is rarer and more valuable: which sites and ad units earn so little they aren't worth the layout compromise? "Rank my sites by RPM and by total earnings, and flag anything in the bottom decile with meaningful traffic" surfaces pages taking up space without paying for it — usually candidates for either a layout change or removal.

Catch policy problems before they cost money

Policy issues and site problems are the quiet revenue killer: serving stops or gets limited, and you find out from the earnings line rather than from an alert you actually read. Asking for open policy issues, account alerts and sites flagged with problems takes one question — and, run on a schedule, it becomes something you're told about rather than something you discover.

Reconcile what you were actually paid

Payments are their own small reconciliation job — what was earned in a period versus what was actually paid out and when. Being able to ask for that alongside the earnings data removes the usual export-and-compare step.

The question AdSense alone can't answer

If you buy traffic to monetised pages, the number that matters is whether the traffic cost less than the ads on it earned. That needs AdSense earnings on one side and Google Ads spend on the other — two products that don't talk to each other. Connect both and it becomes one question. See optimising on profit instead of ROAS for the general form of this.

Make it recurring

The analysis above decays the moment nobody runs it. Put the weekly version on a schedule, set threshold alerts on the conditions you care about, and render the standing view as a self-refreshing dashboard so the numbers are current whenever anyone looks. For why this complements rather than replaces Auto ads, see AdSense Auto ads vs an AI agent.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find out why my AdSense earnings dropped?
Narrow it in stages: break the period down by day to find when it started, then by site, then by ad unit and country for the affected sites, and finally check whether RPM or page views drove more of the change.
Can an AI agent tell me which AdSense sites underperform?
Yes — ranking sites and ad units by RPM and total earnings, and flagging the bottom decile among those with meaningful traffic, is a single question rather than a manual segmentation job.
Can it warn me about AdSense policy issues?
It can read open policy issues, account alerts and sites flagged with problems. Run on a schedule, that becomes an email you receive rather than something you discover in the earnings line weeks later.
Is any of this write access to my AdSense account?
No. The AdSense integration is read-only — the analysis changes nothing in your account.
Can I compare AdSense earnings against the traffic I paid for?
Yes, with Google Ads connected as well. AdSense can't see your ad spend, so that comparison is only possible when something reads both sides.
