Running Spotify Ads with an AI agent: reports, health checks and paused builds
TL;DR
An AI agent helps on Spotify Ads with reporting, account health checks, audience forecasts and paused campaign builds, while spend starts only when a person decides it should. This guide shows how to set it up and what to ask.
1. Connect once, then ask in plain words
- 1An administrator accepts the Spotify Ads API Terms at adsmanager.spotify.com/api-terms. Without that step Spotify answers every API call with 403 "not allow-listed".
- 2Connect Spotify Ads on Integrations with the Spotify Ads Manager login that has a role on the ad account.
- 3Ask for what you need: "How did our Spotify campaigns do last week?" or "Why is our Spotify ad account not delivering?"
2. Reports that read the way Spotify counts
- Days are UTC. Spotify reports carry no account time zone, so a day in the report is a UTC day.
- At most 90 days per report, and hourly numbers only for the last two weeks; longer history comes from a CSV export the agent starts and collects.
- Campaign, ad set or ad by day needs the entity ids — Spotify refuses the report without them. The agent supplies the account's own ids (the first 50) and says so; an account with no campaigns gets an empty report rather than an error.
- Spend is in the account currency, whole units — never micro units a reader would have to divide.
3. Account health before you blame the creative
When nothing is delivering, the cause is often the account rather than the ads. One health read reports the ad account's status, ads Spotify rejected or still reviews, ad sets Spotify paused, and whether a billing method is set — a new account with no billing method is flagged, because nothing on it can run until billing is added in Spotify Ads Manager.
4. Forecast, then build paused
- Forecast first: the audience estimate takes the ad set's shape — dates, format (audio, video, image), targeting, bid strategy, bid and budget — and changes nothing.
- Targeting by name: genres, interests, artists, playlists, podcast topics, languages and places are looked up from Spotify's own catalogues, so ids are never guessed.
- Paused by construction: a new campaign is PAUSED, and new ad sets and ads have delivery OFF. Upload audio, image or video assets from a URL (up to 20 MB).
- You decide when spend starts: turning a campaign ACTIVE or delivery ON always waits for a person, whatever the approval setting. By default every other change waits for your approval too; auto-approve is opt-in.
5. What it will not do
- Delete: Spotify's Ads API has no delete for campaigns, ad sets or ads, and archiving is refused — the agent pauses.
- Play music: the Web Playback SDK is a Premium listener's player that Spotify does not allow next to advertising; ad audio comes from the Ads API's own assets.
- Spend without you: see step 4.

Frequently asked questions
- Does an AI agent need special access to Spotify Ads?
- The app's administrator accepts the Spotify Ads API Terms once, and each person connects with a Spotify Ads Manager login that has a role on the ad account.
- Can an agent start spending on Spotify by itself?
- No. Turning a campaign active or an ad set's delivery on always waits for a person. By default every other change waits for your approval as well; auto-approve is opt-in.
- Why is my Spotify report empty?
- Either the account has no campaigns yet, or nothing delivered in the window. Spotify reports are UTC days and cover at most 90 days at a time.
