AI agent for Pinterest Ads: read, pause, re-budget and build campaigns
TL;DR
Pinterest Ads works here as an ad platform you can act on, not only a report. The agent reads delivery and conversions at every level, pauses and re-budgets what it finds, and builds new campaigns paused — each change behind the same approval gate as Google, Meta and Microsoft. This page says exactly what it can and cannot touch.
Connecting it, and what it asks for
- 1Open Integrations and click Connect on the Pinterest Ads card.
- 2Sign in with the Pinterest account that manages your ads. Every ad account it can reach — its own and any shared with it through Business Access — appears as its own row.
- 3Pick the account, then write the goal.
The connection asks for ads, billing (read), business access (read), boards and Pins (read and write — every Pinterest ad is built on a Pin), catalogs (read) and your account (read). It does not ask to spend ad credit, to change billing, or to manage your business members. A connection made before Pins could be created needs a Re-authorize for the Pin tools; they say so before any call. A first goal worth typing: Which ad groups spent their whole budget every day last month, and what did they return?
What the agent reads
- Every ad account the login reaches, with currency, country, time zone and the user's permissions on each.
- Campaigns, ad groups and ads — objectives, budgets, bids, schedules, targeting, review status and rejection reasons.
- Performance at account, campaign, ad group and ad level, daily or in total, for the last 90 days — and longer or finer ranges (keywords, products, targeting) through Pinterest's asynchronous reports.
- Whether a day's numbers are final yet, so yesterday is not misread as a drop.
- Organic profile analytics — impressions, saves, Pin clicks and outbound clicks — beside the paid numbers.
- Boards, Pins, shopping catalogs and feeds, and billing invoices where Pinterest makes them available.
- Anomaly detection on spend, clicks and conversions against a weekday-aware baseline.
What the agent changes — all of it approval-gated
- Pause and activate campaigns, ad groups and ads, up to thirty at a time.
- Budgets and bids on ad groups, in your account's currency, with a cap on how far one change may move them.
- Campaign budgets under campaign budget optimization (CBO), where the budget lives on the campaign rather than on its ad groups — the agent reads which applies before it writes.
- Create campaigns, ad groups, ads and product-group promotions. Every one starts paused.
- Pins and video — an ad-only Pin (never shown on your profile) built from an image, a carousel or a video uploaded from a public https URL. A public Pin, and deleting a Pin, need a person.
- Landing pages and UTM parameters — an ad's destination and tracking URLs, with UTM parameters merged into the URL so existing parameters and Pinterest macros such as {campaignid} are kept.
- Conversions — a Pinterest tag, and server-side conversion events in TEST mode unless a live send is asked for (a person approves a live send). Identifiers are SHA-256 hashed on our servers.
- Customer lists — built from identifiers hashed on our servers, then used in an audience; a preview shows the counts without sending anything.
- Edit names, schedules, targeting and tracking or destination URLs through a parameterized gateway on the same three objects.
There is no delete for campaigns, ad groups or ads: Pinterest has none. Archiving exists and Pinterest does not document a restore, so a person approves every archive — the agent pauses when that is all you meant.
Things worth knowing before you plan around it
- Pinterest's API counts money in millionths of your account's currency. The agent converts every figure it shows and every amount it writes, and reports money in your currency.
- Campaign budgets under campaign budget optimization are supported: a CBO campaign's budget is changed on the campaign, any other budget on its ad groups, each change approved by you first.
- Pinterest answers a batch change as successful even when some items in it were rejected. The agent checks each item and reports the ones that did not apply.
- Pinterest limits how many API calls an app may make each day, and the limit is shared by all of this app's customers until Pinterest raises it. Reads are cached, and when the day's allowance is spent the agent says so rather than retrying.
- Disconnecting removes the connection here. Pinterest offers no way for an app to revoke your authorization, so also remove the app from your Pinterest account settings.
Frequently asked questions
- Does Agent Planners support Pinterest Ads?
- Yes. Twenty-seven reads and thirty-two approval-gated writes cover reporting, campaigns, ad groups, ads, budgets, bids, landing pages and UTM parameters, ad-only Pins and video uploads, conversion tags and events, customer lists, catalogs, invoices and organic analytics.
- Can it post Pins or change my boards?
- It creates ad-only Pins — the Pin an ad needs, kept on Pinterest's protected ad-only board and never shown on your profile. Publishing a public Pin, or deleting one, needs a person's approval every time. It does not create or edit boards.
- Can it create campaigns, not just report on them?
- Yes — campaigns, ad groups and ads, always paused and behind the approval gate. With approvals on (the default), nothing spends until you approve the change and activate it; under opt-in auto-approve an activation is still held to your spend caps.
- Can it delete or archive campaigns?
- Pinterest has no delete for campaigns. Archiving needs a person's approval every time, because Pinterest does not document whether it can be undone; for a reversible stop the agent pauses instead.
- Does it work alongside Google, Meta and Microsoft?
- Yes. The same run can compare Pinterest with your other ad platforms on the same metrics and propose changes on each, with one approval queue for all of them.
