MCP
Microsoft Clarity MCP server: Microsoft's own, and a hosted one that counts your 10 requests
TL;DR
Microsoft publishes an open-source Clarity MCP server (github.com/microsoft/clarity-mcp-server) that runs on your machine with a project's Data Export token. Both it and a hosted server sit on the same Data Export API, so both live inside Clarity's limits: the last 1–3 days and 10 requests per project per day. This guide covers when each fits.
What already exists for this platform
Microsoft's server runs locally through npx with a Data Export token (Settings → Data Export → Generate new API token). When we read its repository in November 2026 it offered natural-language dashboard queries, a session-recordings listing and a documentation search.
- Session recordings: Microsoft's server lists them; the hosted tools below do not.
- The token sits in your client's config or is passed on each call.
- The limits are Clarity's, not the server's: nothing stops a busy chat from spending a project's 10 requests by noon.
What a hosted layer adds
| Microsoft's Clarity MCP | Agent Planners MCP | |
|---|---|---|
| Clarity tools | Dashboard queries, recordings, docs | 5 reads, 0 writes |
| The 10 requests a day | Spent as you ask | Counted per project and shown; a repeat within two hours is answered from the saved copy |
| Day used up | An error | The newest saved answer, labelled with the time it was read |
| Several projects | One token per run | One row per project; a call that names none is refused, never guessed |
| Bots-only windows | As returned | Said in words — no human sessions is no data, never "no problems" |
| Other platforms in the same session | No | Every other platform the workspace connected, on one endpoint |
Counted from the tool registry. Over MCP the names are
clarity__list_projects, clarity__quota_status, clarity__report, clarity__page_insights and clarity__traffic_sources. list_projects and quota_status spend no Clarity request.How to configure it
- 1In the Clarity project, a project admin generates a Data Export token.
- 2On Integrations, press Connect a project on the Microsoft Clarity card, name it, paste the token and press Check and save (that check spends one request and becomes the first saved answer).
- 3Create a key in API & MCP with
tools:readand add the server to your MCP client with the snippet below. - 4Run
clarity__list_projects, then ask by project, for exampleclarity__page_insightsfor the last 3 days.
bash
claude mcp add --transport http agent-planners https://www.agentplanners.com/api/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer ap_live_…"Every client's setup: MCP setup guide · The tools and limits: Microsoft Clarity guide.
Reading Clarity's numbers honestly
- Rows by page do not add up. A session counts under every page it visited, so a per-page breakdown has no project total.
- 1,000 rows, no paging. A list at 1,000 rows may be incomplete, and the answer says so.
- The landing-page thresholds are ours (rage clicks from 5 % of sessions, dead clicks and quick backs from 10 %, scroll depth under 40 %, 20 sessions at least), and every answer states them.
Frequently asked questions
- Does Microsoft have an official Clarity MCP server?
- Microsoft publishes one as open source at github.com/microsoft/clarity-mcp-server. It runs locally with a project's Data Export token.
- How many Clarity requests does an MCP client use?
- One per question at most through the hosted server: Clarity allows 10 per project per day, and a repeat within two hours is answered from the saved copy without a new request.
- Can an MCP client change anything in Clarity?
- No. Clarity's Data Export API is read-only, and so are the tools.
