AI agent for ChatGPT Ads: reports, budgets, bids and paused-first campaigns for ads in ChatGPT

TL;DR

ChatGPT Ads connects to OpenAI's Ads API with an API key you create in ChatGPT Ads Manager. The key is checked with OpenAI before it is saved and stored encrypted. The agent reports on campaigns, ad groups and ads in your account's own currency and time zone, prepares changes you approve, and builds new campaigns that start paused. The Ads API has no delete — pause is the stop — and archiving cannot be undone, so it waits for a person.

Connecting it

  1. 1In ChatGPT Ads Manager, open Settings → API keys and create a key for your ad account.
  2. 2Open Integrations, press Connect with an API key on the ChatGPT Ads card, paste the key and press Check and save.
  3. 3Pick the ad account for the task, then write the goal.

Access requirements

  • An Ads API key. Each key reaches one ad account. A teammate can add their own key for the same account; pasting a new key replaces the old one. Revoke a key in Ads Manager when you no longer need it.
  • Your account's own features. Some features — several images in one ad, conversion-optimized bidding, spend-limit windows — are switched on per account by OpenAI; until then the API refuses them and the agent says so.
  • Budgets in whole units of the account currency. OpenAI refused a daily budget below $25 on our test account, so the agent proposes at least that and says why when a smaller one is refused.

What the agent reads

  • The ad account (status, review, currency, time zone), campaigns, ad groups and ads with their review status and the reasons an ad is not serving.
  • Performance by account, campaign, ad group or ad — impressions, clicks, spend, CTR, CPC, CPM, conversions — daily, hourly or monthly, in the account's time zone, and conversion events with their sales.
  • Custom audiences (never the people in them), pixels and their recent events, product feeds, location ids for targeting and the account's audit log.

What the agent changes — all of it approval-gated

  • Create campaigns (with a daily or lifetime budget), ad groups (with a bid) and chat-card ads — always paused.
  • Budgets, bids, targeting, context hints and ad copy — each object is read first and the approval shows it before and after; an edited ad goes back to review.
  • Images, audiences and pixels — upload an ad image, create an empty audience or a pixel.
  • Pause campaigns, ad groups and ads, and set the account's daily spend limit.
Turning spending on, archiving and audience uploads always wait for a person: they are never auto-approved, never part of a batch, never on a schedule and never from an autonomous API key. Emails and phone numbers for an audience are hashed on our server before they are sent. There is no delete on the Ads API.

Frequently asked questions

Does Agent Planners support ChatGPT Ads?
Yes. It connects to OpenAI's Ads API with your Ads API key and covers reporting, campaigns, ad groups, ads, images, audiences, pixels and the daily spend limit; everything it creates starts paused.
Can the agent spend money on its own?
No. New campaigns, ad groups and ads start paused, and activating any of them always needs a person's approval — also under auto-approve or from an API key.
Is my API key safe?
It is checked with OpenAI before it is saved, stored encrypted, never shown again and never written to logs. Remove it on the card, and revoke it in Ads Manager, at any time.
