Spotify Ads: an agent reads and manages your audio, video and podcast campaigns

TL;DR

Spotify Ads is now a connected platform: 18 reads and 10 writes on the Spotify Ads API (v3), from the app, over MCP and through the REST API. New campaigns, ad sets and ads are created paused with delivery off, and turning spend on, publishing a draft, audience changes and ad-account edits always wait for a person.

Connect it

  1. 1An administrator accepts the Spotify Ads API Terms once at adsmanager.spotify.com/api-terms; until then Spotify refuses every call with 403 "not allow-listed" (allowlisting can take up to about an hour).
  2. 2On Integrations, open the Spotify Ads card and press Connect. Sign in with a Spotify Ads Manager login that has a role on the ad account.
  3. 3The ad accounts the login reaches appear as rows; Refresh accounts and the automatic account refresh pick up new ones.

What the agent can do

  • Read: businesses, ad accounts, campaigns, ad sets, ads, assets, the change history, targeting catalogues (genres, interests, artists, playlists, geos, languages, podcast topics), audience and bid forecasts, aggregate reports and CSV report exports.
  • Account health: one read says whether the ad account can deliver — its status, rejected or pending ads, ad sets paused by Spotify, and a missing billing method.
  • Write: create and rename campaigns, create and edit ad sets (budget, bid, schedule, targets), edit ads, set status or delivery, upload audio, image and video assets (up to 20 MB from a URL), and a mutate gateway for any other Ads API v3 write on the selected ad account.
  • Projects and alerts: Spotify is a project channel (the Performance tab reads its campaigns) and an alert platform for account-status rules.

Approvals and safety

  • By default every change waits for your approval card. Auto-approve is opt-in per task, schedule or project; under it ordinary changes apply inside your spend caps and protected campaigns.
  • Always a person's decision, whatever the approval setting: turning a campaign ACTIVE or an ad set or ad's delivery ON (spend starts), publishing a draft, any audience write and edits to the ad-account record.
  • Creates land paused — campaigns PAUSED, ad sets and ads with delivery OFF (Spotify's own default is on; the tool sends off).
  • Nothing is deleted: the Spotify Ads API has no delete for campaigns, ad sets or ads, and ARCHIVED is refused — pause instead.
  • Money is in whole units of the account currency (25 means 25.00). A request names budget: { amount }, bid_amount or base_rate_amount; a field named in micro units is refused, so a value is never multiplied by a million twice.

Why the Web Playback SDK is not part of it

Spotify's Web Playback SDK is a browser player for Spotify Premium listeners. Spotify requires written approval before commercial use, it plays Spotify's catalogue rather than an advertiser's ad audio, and Spotify's developer policy does not allow pairing its recordings with advertising. Ad audio and background music go through the Ads API's own audio assets instead.

Frequently asked questions

Can an AI agent manage Spotify Ads?
Yes. Connect Spotify Ads Manager on Integrations and the agent reads campaigns, ad sets, ads, reports and account health, and prepares paused campaigns, ad sets, ads and assets. By default each change waits for your approval; turning spend on always waits for a person.
Why does Spotify answer 403 "not allow-listed"?
The Spotify Ads API Terms have not been accepted for the app yet. An administrator accepts them once at adsmanager.spotify.com/api-terms; allowlisting can take up to about an hour.
Can the agent delete a Spotify campaign?
No. Spotify's Ads API has no delete for campaigns, ad sets or ads, and archiving is refused; the agent pauses instead.
